Weekly Look At Offense

Nothing much has changed. Offense remains up about 0.75 runs compared to the first seventeen full weeks of 2018. This year, games featured 9.66 runs, while last season at this time games produced 8.90 runs. Again, the increase is due entirely to home runs, 2.8 per game this year, 2.3 through 17 weeks last season.

Strikeouts exploded lately, with the last three weeks producing 18.5 per game, 17.6 per game, and 18.2 per game last week. Despite the higher K rates, teams are still scoring and still hitting home runs. Here’s the weekly trend in runs, so you can see the strikeout did not stop scoring.
