Sources say the Phillies acquired pitcher Jason Vargas from the Mets for next to nothing.
Vargas, 36, is 6-5 with a 4.01 ERA in 19 games — 18 starts — this season. The 14-year veteran got off to a terrible start this season but has fared better over the last two months, going 5-3 with a 3.34 ERA over his last 12 starts.

His FIPs remain terrible, especially his xFIP. The Mets are getting sending money and a minor leaguer:
It looks to me that the Mets are either doing a salary dump, or they think Vargas can help them catch the Phillies.
It wouldn’t surprise me if this is related to his refusal to apologize to the Newsday reporter he threatened in the clubhouse. I hope it is. It’d be nice to think that the Mets have the integrity to not tolerate that.
