Ryan Zimmerman pinch hits in the bottom of the eighth and gets a single on a broken bat single to center. That puts men on first and third for Anthony Rendon, the Brewers leading 3-1. As the barrel of the shattered bat was carried off the field, Jeff Francoeur said, “That bat died a hero.”
Update: Rendon walks to load the bases for Juan Soto. Josh Hader struggled with his control this inning, with 15 of 27 pitches going for balls.
Update: Soto hits what should be a two-run single, but Trent Grisham let the ball get by him, and all three runners scored. Soto is caught in a run down, but the Nationals go to the night with a 4-3 lead.
