IBWAA announced their Rookie of the Year Awards Monday:
This is the 11th annual election for the IBWAA in the rookie category.
IBWAA
Election results are as follows:
AL Rookie:
1st Place: Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros – 541 points
2nd Place: Eloy Jimenez, Chicago White Sox – 130
3rd Place: Vladimir Guerrero, Jr., Toronto Blue Jays – 128
NL Rookie:
1st Place: Pete Alonso, New York Mets – 600 points
2nd Place: Mike Soroka, Atlanta Braves – 220
3rd Place: Fernando Tatis, Jr., San Diego Padres – 147
The BBWAA and IBWAA agreed on the NL win, place and show. In the AL, the two organizations agreed on the winner, but picked two different people for second and third place. Jimenez impressed with his power, especially on the road. I don’t quite see what was that impressive about Guerrero, however. His .272/.339/.433 slash line is okay for a rookie, but doesn’t stand out. I would say this is one time the IBWAA underperformed the BBWAA.
