The Nationals bring back Asdrubal Cabrera for $2.5 million.
Cabrera, 34, played a key role in Washington’s World Series title run by giving the Nationals infield depth and another tough batter with runners in scoring position. He hit .323 with six homers, 40 RBIs and a .969 OPS in 38 regular-season games with the team.

That adds to the Nationals veteran infield of Howie Kendrick and recently signed Starlin Castro. Carter Kieboom is set to take over at third base for Washington, giving the team a young set on the left side of the infield. Kendrick can play anywhere, Castro could fill in at short if Trea Turner needs a rest of suffers an injury, and Cabrera could fill in at first and third as well. Washington did a great job in 2019 of picking spots for Kendrick’s playing time, maximizing his talent. If they can do the save for Castro and Cabrera this season, they will have an excellent bench.
