Games of the Day

Kyle Hendricks takes on Sonny Gray as the Cubs and Reds sit at opposite ends of the NL Central. The Cubs are on top at 4-1, while the Reds sit at the bottom of the division, 1-4. Hendricks pitched a shutout opening day, the only nine inning complete game in baseball so far. Gray earned the Reds only win, holding the Tigers to three hits and one run in six innings.

Charlie Morton took the only loss for the Rays so far as they visit Atlanta to face Mike Soroka. Morton gave up seven hits and six runs in his start against Toronto, including a three-run homer. Morton and Soroka ranked one-two in the majors last season in lowest HR per 9 IP. Soroka posted six scoreless innings against the Mets in his first start of the season.

Finally, Chris Paddack of the Padres faces Johnny Cueto of the Giants, both coming off good opening day starts. It’s another top-bottom matchup, as the Padres lead the NL West with a 4-1 record, the Giants bringing up the rear at 2-3. Paddack handled the Giants well so far in his career, 1-0 in three starts with a 2.65 ERA. Cueto only pitched four innings in the opener, as he tries to extend his time on the mound. He only walked one batter, which is a good sign given his wildness last year.

Enjoy!
