Must be Sunspots

At least the third catcher interference call of the night comes in the top of the ninth inning when Edwin Encarnacion of the White Sox hits the glove of Indians catcher Beau Taylor. Two Yankees reached by that call in one inning earlier this evening.

The game in Cleveland stayed scoreless through eight innings. The White Sox loaded the bases and broke through with a sacrifice fly in the ninth. Encarnacion’s CI reloaded the bases, and a second SF gives Chicago a 2-0 lead. Luis Robert then follows with a single to score two more for a 4-0 lead.

Update: In the last 100 years, there have never been four CI in one day.

The Mets announcers SAID CI was called in the Mets-Red Sox game tonight, but it’s not in the ESPN box score. The count was changed from 2-1 to 3-0 after a foul, and they said CI but I’ve never seen that result in a ball, always in the batter getting awarded 1B. But I may not understand some intricacies of CI.
