Best Batter Today

Manny Machado of the Padres barely holds on to first place in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings despite a one for Four night in a 4-3 loss to the Rockies. Anthony Rendon of the Angels jumps to second place and pulls to 0.05 points of Machado as Rendon posts a double and three walks in the 16-3 win over the Mariners.

Rendon’s night drops Jose Abreu of the White Sox to third place. He singled in five trips as the Royals stage a late inning offensive onslaught to win the game 9-6.

There is a trade of Turners as Trea Turner of the Nationals replaced Justin Turner of the Dodgers. Turner extends his hit streak to fourteen games with a five for five night against the Red Sox, including two doubles. The Boston wins the game 5-3, however, as Xander Bogaerts goes three for four with a double and home run.

Nelson Cruz of the Twins drops to fifth place. He homers in game one of the doubleheader, then goes two for three with another home run in game two. Cruz leads the AL in home runs with 13 and is tied with Fernando Tatis, Jr. for the MLB lead. The Tigers, however, sweep the Twins by scores of 8-2 and 4-2.
