Best Batter Today

Jose Abreu of the White Sox shakes up the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. He posts a two for four night with a home run to jump to first place as the White Sox continue their race against Tampa Bay and Oakland for the best record in the American League with a 5-0 win over the Reds. Manny Machado of the Padres singles twice in the 4-1 loss to Seattle to take second place.

Dropping to third is Freddie Freeman of the Braves. Freeman goes zero for five with four strikeouts as the Mets take the game 7-2. The Baseball Musings Game Score provides a penalty for making more than four outs in a game, plus a penalty for each strikeout. The combination of outs and strikeouts for Freeman produced a game score of 30, the worst for a starting batter on Saturday

In the same game, Michael Conforto of the Mets goes one for four with a walk for fourth place.

Finally, DJ LeMahieu of the Yankees takes over the top of the longest current hit streak board with a two for five night against the Red Sox. The Yankees pound the Red Sox 8-0 for their tenth win in a row. I believe that if the Yankees win today they clinch a playoff spot, as neither Detroit nor Seattle could beat them for a third place slot. The AL playoff field is rapidly taking shape.
