Best Batter Today

The top five all shone Tuesday night, with Jose Abreu of the White Sox staying atop the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Abreu homered in four trips, his nineteenth homer of the season tying the game against Cleveland in the sixth inning. Jose Ramirez of the Indians would match that one for four in the bottom of the tenth, his three-run blast winning the game. Ramirez winds up in third place.

Freddie Freeman of the Braves moves back into second place with a three for five night, including a double and a home run as Atlanta beats Miami 11-1 to clinch the NL East title. Freeman leads Ramirez by 0.70 points. Freeman’s teammate, Marcell Ozuna, Also misses the cycle by a triple, going four for five with a double and two home runs to sit in fourth place, a little over three points behind Ramirez.

Rounding out the top five is Manny Machado of the Padres, who doubled and walked in four trips against the Angels. There is now an eight-point gap between fifth and sixth place in the ranking, so it will be tough to move up.
