NL Central Tie Breaker

In order for the Reds, Brewers, and Cardinals to wind up tied for second place in the division, the Brewer must take three of the last four games against St. Louis. The St. Louis needs to split the extra doubleheader against Detroit. But because there is only one way for that to happen, we can figure out the tie breakers if it does happen, as they are all based on intra division play.

The first tie-breaker is head-to-head play among the three teams. They all would be 10-10 against each other. The second tie-breaker is intra-division record. Cincinnati and St. Louis would be 21-19, and Milwaukee would be out of the second slot at 20-20. Now we break the tie for second place, and to do that we would need to look at the last 20 intra-division games. St. Louis would be 10-10. Cincinnati would be 12-8, and get the second place finish.

The Marlins beat the Phillies in head-to-head competition, and they would get second in the NL East if there were a five-way tie. Then the Phillies, Cardinals, and Brewers would go through tie breakers to determine the two wild cards. If the Giants also finished tied, then the four teams would go through the scenarios.
