Lou Johnson Passes

Dodgers World Series hero Lou Johnson died Wednesday:

“Sweet” Lou Johnson, who hit a key home run for the victorious Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the 1965 World Series and scored the only run in Sandy Koufax‘s perfect game the same year, has died. He was 86.

Johnson died Wednesday night at his home in Los Angeles, according to the Dodgers, who were informed by his wife. He had been in ill health and died a day after his birthday.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

His three seasons with the Dodgers were the most successful of his career. He posted 6.6 of his 8.1 career WAR in that time. His 1966 was the pinnacle of his career as he hit .272/.316/.414 with 71 runs scored, 73 RBI, and 17 home runs. He walked away with a World Series ring after taking Jim Kaat deep in game seven of the World Series, all Sandy Koufax would need in the 2-0 victory.
