Playoffs Today

Miami and Atlanta play game two of their NLDS at 2 PM EDT on Wednesday. Pablo Lopez of the Marlins faces Ian Anderson of the Braves. Lopez pitched two good games against the Braves this season, winning both. Sandwiched in between, however, was a 1 2/3 innings, seven run outing that gave him a 6.39 ERA against Atlanta this season. Rookie Ian Anderson posted a nice first season, striking out 41 in 32 1/3 innings for a 1.95 ERA. That included a 1.04 ERA against the Marlins.

Oakland takes the role of the road team as they try to fend off elimination in game three of their ALDS against the Astros. Game time is 3:30 PM EDT. Jesus Luzardo takes on Jose Urquidy. Luzardo pitched well against the Astros, posting a 2.84 ERA in 12 2/3 innings with 12 K. Urquidy’s three-true outcomes are not great. His strikeouts were low and his home runs high, but he posted a 2.73 ERA when his FIP pegged him at 4.71. He allowed a .154 BA with runners in scoring position, which helped.

At 7 PM EDT Charlie Morton and Masahiro Tanaka take the mound in game three of the San Diego ALCS. The Rays and Yankees are even at one game apiece. Morton’s three true outcomes were similar to last season. His rise in ERA was due to a .355 BABIP, up from .298 in 2019. Tanaka walked one and struck out 14 Rays in 15 innings against Tampa Bay this season, but three home runs led to a 4.20 ERA.

The Padres and Dodgers continue their series in Arlington at 9 PM EDT. The Dodgers won game one of this NLDS. Chris Paddack battles Clayton Kershaw. Los Angeles pounded Paddack this season, hitting four home runs in nine innings covering two starts, good for a 9.00 ERA. With eight shutout innings in the Wild Card round, Kershaw’s ERA for the year stands at 1.96.
