Playoffs Today

The Dodgers move back to home team status as they “host” the Braves in game six of the NLCS. Atlanta wins the NL pennant with a victory in the game. Game time is 4:30 PM EDT, 1:30 PM PDT. Max Fried of the Braves faces Walker Buehler of the Dodgers. Both pitched well in game one of the series, Fried giving up one run in six innings, Buehler one run in five innings. Buehler walked five batters, and while he kept his hits allowed low, those extra pitches due to the walks made the Dodgers stretch their bullpen, and that led to the loss. We’ll see if Buehler goes after hitters more in this game.

At 8:30 PM EDT, 7:30 PM CDT, the Astros take on the home Rays in game seven of the ALCS. This is the 38th time in baseball history a team went down 0-3 in a seven game series. It’s the second time one of those teams forced a game seven. A team at this level should have a probability of 1/16 of coming back from three games down. So our expectation that in 38 tries, two of those series would end in a comeback victory. An Astros victory would put that expectation on track.

Lance McCullers of the Astros faces Charlie Morton of the Rays. Referring to the link above, Morton and McCullers own the best ERAs in the LCS round this year, minimum of five innings pitched. The pair faced off in game two, Morton posting five shutout innings for the win, walking one and striking out five. McCullers took the loss as he allowed three unearned runs thanks to Jose Altuve‘s throwing errors. Otherwise, McCullers was strong, walking none and striking out eleven in seven innings. He will need to avoid the home run ball tonight, as the two long balls cost him the game.

Enjoy!
