Manfred and the Rules

Rob Manfred wants to bring back the extra innings man on second rule and an expanded playoff format:

“I like the idea of, and I’m choosing my words carefully here, an expanded playoff format,” Manfred said. “I don’t think we would do 16 like we did this year. I think we do have to be cognizant of making sure that we preserve the importance of our regular season. But I think something beyond the 10 that we were at would be a good change.”

I don’t mind an expanded playoff as long as they keep the no-off day rule in place. For a number of years I’ve wanted the second off day in a series removed. Having no days off keeps fans engaged in a series, and shortens the time between the end of one and the start of the next if there is a sweep.

The Extra Innings rule makes a farce of the game…the base has not been earned but rather given. All for the sake of expedience and “time”. One of the beauties of Baseball is that you never know when you will get the 15 inning game..or 20.. I think Manfred hates baseball.
