NL Cy Young

It is a good day for Ohio as the BBWAA presents the NL Cy Young Award to Trevor Bauer of the Reds. Shane Bieber of the Indians won the AL version of the Award. Bauer received 27 first place votes and a total of 201 points. Yu Darvish of the Cubs finished second with three first place votes and 123 points. Jacob deGrom of the Mets, who won the last two seasons, finished third with 89 points.

Bauer led the NL in ERA, was fifth in walks allowed per 9 IP, and third in K per 9 IP. He is the first member of the Reds to win the award. It’s tough to win when your team plays in a park that favors offense. Bauer finished third in fWAR, and owned just a 5-4 record. The Cy Young tracker thought Darvish would win, but wins are counting for less these days, and Bauer won easily.

Congratulations to Bauer on his achievement!
