The MVPs

Jose Abreu of the White Sox takes home the AL MVP award, voted on by the Baseball Writers Association of Amercia (BBWAA). The Cuban born first baseman garnered 21 first place votes and finished with 374 points. Jose Ramirez of the Indians finished second with 17 second place votes and 303 points. The closest race was for fourth and fifth place, where Shane Bieber of the Indians beat out Mike Trout of the Indians by one point. Both players collected four third place votes and ten fourth place votes, by Bieber received nine fifth place votes to Trout’s two. Two people left Bieber off the ballot, while all thirty voters ranked Trout. This was Trout’s worst finish in the MVP voting.

I thought Ramirez had the better season overall, but Abreu was more consistently good, while Ramirez had an amazing run at the finish.

The NL MVP Award goes to Freddie Freeman of the Braves, marking the third time both MVP awards went to first basemen. Freeman pulled in twenty eight first place votes for 410 points. Mookie Betts of the Dodgers finished second with 21 second place votes, adn Manny Machado of the Padres finished third with 15 third place votes. The Padres did very well as Fernando Tatis, Jr. finished fourth.

Freeman led the NL in fWAR with a 3.4 mark. He slugged .650, the highest of his career, with 37 extra-base hits out of 73 total. He also walked 45 times for a .462 OBP.

Congratulations to both players on well deserved awards!
