My favorite Lundy McDaniel story happened back in 1963 when he was with the Cubs against the Giants. I watched the game live on WGN. He came into a tie game in the top of the 10th with the bases loaded and one out. Before throwing a pitch he turned and picked Willie Mays off second base and then promptly struck out the batter whose name I can’t recall. He then led off the bottom of the tenth (yes, relief pitchers hit back then) with a walk off home run. You can’t get more proficient than that.
