Brian Harkin, the Angels employee who supplied pitchers with a mix of pine tar and rosin for a better grip, saw his defamation suit dismissed on Tuesday:
“This is not to say that the termination was justified under the circumstances,” the judge’s ruling read, “only that the plaintiff cannot show that these statements were false and defamatory.”

The good that comes of this case is that we now know how some pitchers achieved better spin rates. I would say in recent years that dubious practices by players and teams get exposed much faster than 30 years ago.
