Best Batter Today

A new face joins the top five in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Corey Seager of the Dodgers and Jose Ramriez of the Indians continue to battle for the top spot. With the Dodgers off on Monday, Ramirez slipped about three points behind Seager with an 0 for 4 night, including two strikeouts. The White Sox win that game 4-3. Jose Altuve of the Astros drew a walk in four trips as Detroit took AJ Hinch‘s return to Houston 6-2.

Wil Myers of the Padres makes his debut in the top five after a three for five night in Pittsburgh, including his third home run of the season. Myers slash line stands at .350/.435/.675 as seven of his 14 hits went for extra bases. Myers was not the Padres hitter I expected to see in the top five. The Padres made a deal for him expecting to acquire a star. That didn’t happen until 2020, when he both did a great job getting on base and hitting for power. So far that carried over into 2021. His 72 game score Monday night topped the batters for the evening. I don’t know what changed, but he is barreling up the ball more. The Padres beat the Pirates 6-2.

DJ LeMahieu of the Yankees took an 0 for 4 with three strikeouts, but holds fifth place as New York beats Toronto 3-1.
