Best Batter Today

Corey Seager of the Dodgers reminded everyone last night that Fernando Tatis, Jr of the Padres is not the only great hitting shortstop in the AL West. Seager stays atop the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings, winning the game with a two-run, lead-off homer* in the top of the twelfth inning. The Dodgers scored five runs in that inning to beat San Diego 11-6. Seager also drew a walk in the game. Tatis also homered in the game, going 1 for 6 in his return from the illjured list.

*Never thought I would ever write two-run, lead-off homer.

Seager’s teammates Justin Turner and Max Muncy rank two and five respectively. Turner turned in a three for six night, while Munch went one for five with a walk.

Jose Ramirez of the Indians drops to third place after going one for three with a walk in a 10-3 Reds victory. Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Braves collected a hit and walk for fourth place in a 5-2 win over the Cubs.

There were not really outstanding batting performances on Friday. Three players, all posted game scores of 68 for the day’s high. Justin Upton of the Angels doubled and homered in four trips, Nick Solak of the Rangers homered, singled and walked in four trips, and Jean Segura of the Phillies collected three hits, two of them doubles.
