Jacob deGrom of the Mets struck out the last nine Rockies player. When the Rockies come up in the bottom of the fifth inning, deGrom will need one to tie Tom Seaver‘s record of ten strikeouts in a row. To aid deGrom, the shadows at Coors Field are coming into play. The Mets lead the Rockies 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning.
C.J. Cron is scheduled to bat next for the Rockies.
Update: Sorry, Josh Fuentes is due up next.
Update: Fuentes hits an 0-1 pitch up the middle where he reaches when Jeff McNeil makes a poor throw for an error.
Update: With one out Dom Nunez triples in the tying run. It’s an unearned run for deGrom, who continues to pitch well without much support.
Update: Yonathan Daza hits a line drive to shallow rightfield for the second out, but Nunez tries to score from third. Michael Conforto makes a poor throw home, and the Rockies lead 2-1. It’s not only a lack of run support from the Mets, but a lack of fielding support as well.
Update: Raimel Tapia follows with a home run for the third unearned run of the inning against deGrom. The Rockies lead the Mets 3-1.
Update: A strikeout ends the inning. It’s a seven inning game, so the Mets don’t have a lot of time to come back.
Update: The Mets do tie the game with a home run in the sixth and an RBI double by Jonathan Villar in the seventh.
Update: Francisco Lindor picks up the fourth Mets hit of the seventh, and the Mets lead 4-3.
Update: Edwin Diaz comes in for the Mets in the seventh and strikes out the side to earn a save for himself and a win for deGrom. The Mets win 4-3 as deGrom strikes out 14 in six innings, and the Mets pitchers strike out 17 of 26 Rockies faced.
