Fixing a Weakness

Bailey Ober of the Twins pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings against the White Sox as Minnesota takes the game 1-0. Ober, making the thirteenth start of his rookie year pitched well in two dimensions of the three true outcomes entering the game. Per nine innings, he struck out 9.6 batters and walked 2.6 batters. He allowed 13 home runs in 52 1/3 innings, however, which helped him to a 4.99 ERA. Ober solved the home run problem while walking one and striking out six, and the results were encouraging for the Twins. Ober did a good job in the minors of keeping the ball in the park, so maybe the Twins saw the future today.

Having first taken three of four from the Astros, and now two of three from the White Sox, I think it’s pretty clear that Nelson Cruz and Jose Berrios were holding this team back all year.
