Games of the Day

The slipping Reds face the surging Braves with Vladimir Gutierrez battling Kyle Muller in contest between true rookies. Gutierrez holds a 7-3 record in thirteen starts as he goes decently deep in games for a rookie. With a low K rate, he trades hits for walks, and also has a tendency to give up the long ball. The Reds scored five runs or more in nine of his starts, however. Muller’s K and home run rates are very good, but he also trades hits for walks. With his high K rate, the hits against him come at a much lower rate.

The White Sox host the Yankees in Iowa at the Field of Dreams, a promotional game for MLB. The series finishes Saturday and Sunday in Chicago. Andrew Heaney faces Lance Lynn. Heaney owns a 5.45 ERA this season, thanks to a high home run rate and batter getting hits frequently when they don’t strike out. Lynn leads the Tom Tango Cy Young predictor over teammate Carlos Rodon.

Finally, Toronto finishes their series with the Angels as Jose Berrios takes on Shohei Ohtani. It’s a contrast in control as Berrios walked 33 batters in 133 2/3 inning while Ohtani walked 36 batters in 86 innings.

Ohtani homered Wednesday night after a long drought. His probability of 62 home runs shrunk quite a bit, and his most likely home run total is now at 49.

Enjoy!
