Lugo Passes

Former shortstop Julio Lugo died from an presumed heart attack at the too young age of 45:

Lugo batted .269 with 80 homers and 475 RBIs from 2000 to 2011 with the Astros, Devil Rays, Dodgers, Red Sox, Cardinals, Orioles and Braves. He batted .385 in the 2007 World Series sweep of the Colorado Rockies.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

At his peak in 2004 and 2005, he hit 77 doubles and 10 triples with a .351 OBP, helped by 115 walks. Those were his strengths throughout his career, his ability to get the speed extra-base hits and to draw a walk. The 2003, 2004, and 2005 were his best years, posting 11.5 fWAR in that time out of a total of 13.5 for his career. His peak was short but excellent, and he stayed around long enough to win a World Series ring with the Red Sox.
