Demeter Passes

Former outfielder Don Demeter died Monday at the age of 86:

Over 11 seasons Demeter hit 163 home runs playing for five teams. He played in 266 consecutive games without an error as an outfielder with the Phillies and the Detroit Tigers, a major league record at the time. (He did commit errors when he played at third base and first base.)

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Demeter’s strength was his power, with a .194 career isolated power. His best seasons came at the prime ages of 27 and 28 in 1962 and 1963. Over those two seasons he hit .284/.334/.478 and produced 5.9 WAR.
