Big Apple Buck

Buck Showalter returns to New York as the manager of the Mets:

The 65-year-old succeeds Luis Rojas and brings a wealth of experience and credibility to the dugout for a team that is looking to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Showalter, the former Yankees, Diamondbacks, Rangers and Orioles manager, returns to the game for the first time since being fired by Baltimore in 2018. He beat out finalists Joe Espada and Matt Quatraro, who also met with owner Steve Cohen earlier this week during the second round of interviews.

Good. Buck is a quality manager with a .506 career winning percentage. I’ve always been impressed by his lability to put players into situations where they are more likely to succeed. So far in his career, however, he has not taken a team over the finishing line, as he is 9-14 in the post season. If Buck can get the Mets back into the post-season in 2022, that will be a big accomplishment.
