The Athletics promote Mark Kotsay to field manager:

Kotsay, 46, was Oakland’s third-base coach last season and is a former bench coach with the Athletics. He now takes over for Bob Melvin, who left to manage the San Diego Padres.

Two weeks ago Kotsay looked like the front runner, and is known to possess good communication skills. He already knows how the front office operates and is well acquainted with the roster. This should make the transition easier.
