Gerald Williams Passes

Gerald Williams died of cancer Tuesday morning at the too young age of 55. Derek Jeter made the announcement:

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Williams was known more for his defense than his offense, gathering more WAR with his glove than his bat in his 14 season career. His best season came in 1998 when he hit .305/.352/.504 for the Braves in 289 plate appearances. The Braves saw that the right-handed hitter faced mostly left-handed pitchers that season. For his career he hit .279/.330/.482 against lefties, .242/.284/.370 against righties.
