Rookie Jack Suwinski of the Pirates was off to a slow start, with a high strikeout rate driving his batting average down to .208 and his OBP down to .266. He came up big on Saturday, however, with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to beat Arizona 2-1. Overall in the minors, Suwinski did not put up great numbers, but in the last couple of seasons he started to show selectivity and power. In his final plate appearance of the day, he worked the count, got his pitch, and crushed it. At seasonal age 23 he still has some development in front of him.
