Games of the Day

The Orioles finish their series with the Twins as Tyler Wells faces Devin Smeltzer. The Orioles starting staff recently gelled into a successful unit, as the own the second best average game score since June 16th. They are not going deep in games, but they are allowing very little damage. Wells is 3-0 with a 1.12 ERA in that stretch. Smeltzer owns a 1.50 ERA at home where he allowed just 12 hits in 24 innings.

The Dodgers go for a sweep of the Padres and a five and half game lead in the NL West. MacKenzie Gore battles Clayton Kershaw. Batter reach base at a good clip against Gore, with an OBP of .321. They don’t generate power, however, with a .323 slugging percentage. Only eleven of the 51 hits against him went for extra bases. Kershaw stands ten wins away from 200 for his career. Twenty three of those wins came against the Padres, and Kershaw owns a career 2.08 ERA against his southern California rivals.

The Sunday night game features Adam Wainwright against Zack Wheeler as the Cardinals play the Phillies. Both are on the short list of pitchers with at least 300 innings since the start of the 2020 season, and both are in the top ten in ERA in that group.
