Best Batter Today

Freddie Freeman, Aaron Judge, Brandon Nimmo, and Pete Alonso, out of the playoffs, rank one, two, three, and five respectively in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Alex Bregman of the Astros ranks fourth after drawing a walk in the 7-0 Phillies victory in game three of the World Series. Yordan Alvarez, with an 0 for 4, drops to seventh place. The highest ranked Phillies batter on the list is Bryce Harper, who moves up to ninth place with his home run in four trips to the plate. He’s four points out of the top five.

The best game score of the night goes to Kyle Schwarber and Alec Bohm, both one for three with a home run and a walk for the Phillies. That works out to a 62. For those of you who think Brandon Marsh had the best game with a two for three and a home run, you might be right. The game score penalizes players who come to bat less than four times in a game. These tend to be bottom of the order hitters, and a bottom of the order hitter is less likely to be a great hitter.

Schwarber now ranks 13th, Bohm 78th, and Marsh 224th.

I’d like to mention one statistic. Teams that have a
Starting pitcher in these playoffs are 15-1 when they have
that starting pitcher pitch 6 or more innings and give up one earned run or less.
That means the team that has its starting pitcher give up one earned run or less after pitching 6 or more innings
Has a 93.75 % chance of winning that game.
Also,in 39 postseason games ( 78 starts) there has only been 16 pitchers that have pitched six innings or more and not given up more that one earned run.
