Playoffs Today

Cristian Javier takes the mound for the Astros to face Aaron Nola of the Phillies as the teams face off in game four of the 2022 World Series. It’s a sign of a good pitching staff that the fourth starter owned a 2.54 ERA during the regular season. Javier turned opponents into poor hitting catchers as they posted a .170/.252/.305 slash line against him. Opponents did hit .238 against him with runners in scoring position, but with such a low OBP, there were only 80 at bats in that situation. In his third post season, Javier’s ERA stands at 2.70. Seven of the eight runs he allowed, however, came on five home runs.

Nola allowed one unearned run in 12 2/3 innings in the first two rounds of the 2022 post season, but eleven earned runs nine innings in the LCS and World Series. Despite striking out 23 batters in 21 2/3 innings, he allowed 22 hits, with his overall ERA at 4.57. Throughout his career, his high K rate allowed him to limit hits, but the better offensive squads have found holes.

Enjoy!
