Best Batter Today

The top five of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings rearranges itself once again. It’s been tough for anyone to break through for more than a day. Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers sits on top after drawing two walks in a 10-5 win over the Giants. Trailing by about one point is Aaron Judge of the Yankees, who drew a single walk against the Guardians in a 4-3 New York victory. Pete Alonso of the Mets gains ground on both of them as he posts a two for three day with a home run and a walk in a 5-2 win over the Padres.

The Astros gave Yordan Alvarez a day off Wednesday and he sits in fourth place. Mike Trout of the Angels draws a walk in a 3-2 win over Washington. The top five are now separated by just over six points, and the top ten are separated by just ten points. The top five is ripe for a shakeup.

The best game score of the day goes to Lourdes Gurriel of the Diamondbacks. He missed the cycle by a triple as he posts a 3 for 5 game in a 7-3 win over the Brewers. Gurriel was off to a slow start with a .250/.277/.409 slash line after the 73 game score. He does have eight RBI in eleven games and is 5 for 14 with runners in scoring position, so he may be following the Albert Pujols aging model of saving his effort for when it does the most damage.
