Pittsburgh plays at Milwaukee in a very tight NL Central race. The Brewers hold first place, 1/2 game ahead of both the Pirates and the Reds, with the Cubs three games back. Mitch Keller takes on Wade Miley. For the first time since his rookie year of 2019, Keller owns more strikeouts than innings pitched. Combined with a lower walk rate, Keller’s ERA is over a run lower than his career average. Miley limits hits despite a low strikeout rate, batters reaching base at just a .287 clip against him.
The Rays take on their old teammate in San Diego as Zach Eflin faces Blake Snell. Eflin walked just eleven batters in 71 1/3 innings, giving him the third lowest walk rate in the majors this season. Snell is just 2-6 with his 3.78 ERA, hurt by allowing ten home runs in 69 innings.
