At 1 PM EDT, the Cubs face the Cardinals in London. Justin Steele takes on Adam Wainwright. Steele, in his third MLB season, lowered his ERA again, coming into the game with a 2.71 mark. His home run rate keeps getting better, as he allowed just three dingers in 73 innings this season. Wainwright’s strikeout rate fell off a cliff this season, down to 4.9 per 9 IP compared to 6.7 per 9 IP last season. With that his hits allowed and ERA both rocketed up.

The Diamondbacks lead the Giants by 2 1/2 games as the team battle in San Francisco. Merrill Kelly takes the hill against rookie Ryan Walker. Kelly lowered his ERA nearly half a run from 2022. He cut down on hits allowed by pushing his K rate above 9.0 per 9 IP. Walker owns a 1.56 ERA in 17 1/3 innings, as most of the damage against him came with the bases empty.

Two youngsters take the mound in Miami as the Pirates send Osvaldo Bido against Bryan Hoeing. The rookie Bido worked ten innings in two starts and has yet to allow an extra-base hit. Hoeing owns a 2.70 ERA in 30 innings, with a 1.15 ERA at home in 15 2/3 innings.
