Hit ’em Where They Ain’t

With the Pirates and Marlins tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eleventh, the Marlins get the placed runner to third with one out, bringing up number nine hitter Jon Berti, a right-handed batter. The Pirates shifted pulling the second baseman close to his bag, and the first baseman halfway between first and second. The infield was in a bit. Berti drove the ball the other way for a single. He didn’t beat the shift, and he hit a line drive into the outfield, but I liked the fact that he saw a hole and swung for it. The Marlins take the game 4-3.

Luis Arraez goes one for three with a home run and two walks, driving in the first two runs of the game for the Marlins. He’s now hitting .401.
