Wild Win

The Marlins beat the Cardinals 10-9 that saw a big comeback, a late lead change on a two out home run by the Cardinals, and a walk off win on a short throw from the Cardinals pitcher to the first baseman that went over the head of Paul Goldschmidt to allow two runs to score.

The final play was interesting from another perspective. With pinch runner Garrett Hamson at second base and Yuli Gurriel at first base, Joey Wendle comes to the plate. Wendle was in the game because Jean Segura was ejects for arguing balls and strikes when he drew a line in the opposite batters box to show the ump how outside the strike zone the pitch passed.

On the final pitch, Hamson took off for third. Wendle put the ball in play, a tapper back to the pitcher, Jordan Hicks. As Hicks made the soft throw to first, Hamosn kept running, trying to score the tying run even if the second out was recorded at first. He likely would have made it. It turned out that Gurriel was able to score from first on the play, as the both sides blowing saves gives the game to the home team.
