The Rays try to score a run against the Giants as they send Aaron Civale against Ryan Walker. Civale walked one and struck out six in 9 1/3 innings for the Rays without allowing a home run, but got knocked around for sixteen hits. Walker does well as an opener, with a 2.40 ERA in nine starts covering 15 innings. He struck out 23, but walked seven.

Justin Verlander faces Jesus Luzardo as the Astros finish their series with the Marlins. Overall, Verlander owns a 3.19 ERA. While his strikeout rate is down this season, he still manages to limit hits. Luzardo owns a 3.31 ERA at home versus 4.85 on the road. It comes down to him doing a much better job of limiting hits in Miami.

Finally, the Brewers send Wade Miley against the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw. Miley struck out just 53 batters in 77 2/3 innings, but holds opponents to a .225 BA and a .289 OBP. Kershaw continues to age well in terms of averages. His 2.51 ERA is right on his 2.48 career mark. He just doesn’t stay healthy, so the Dodgers depend on him for 22 starts instead of 32.
