Best Batter Today

Yordan Alvarez of the Astros posts the highest game score of the day, an 87, which propels him back to the top of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Alvarez goes four for five with a double and two home runs in an 8-0 win over the Blue Jays. He was in a bit of a slump to start the season:

Alvarez said there was a simple reason why he broke out Wednesday.

“I (used) last year’s bats,” he said in Spanish through a translator.

His teammate, Jose Altuve, homered and walked in the game to take fourth place. The Blue Jays managed just one hit to suffer their second shutout of the series. They did walk seven times, but could not find holes in the defense otherwise.

Mookie Betts of the Dodgers is a close second after he singles and walks in a 5-4 win over the Giants. Juan Soto of the Yankees ranks third after a rare 0 for 5 night for him. New York beat Arizona in 11 innings 6-5. Corey Seager of the Rangers moves back into the top five after a two for five game with a home run in a 4-1 win over Tampa Bay.
