Games of the Day

The comeback Giants meet the Mets in Queens with Logan Webb facing Sean Manaea. The opposition hits .272 against Webb, but he limits walks and home runs enough that the hits don’t do much damage. Manaea is similar in home runs, but he walks the house while limiting hits.

Ranger Suarez of the Phillies brings his 9-0 record and 1.36 ERA into Coors Field to face Cal Quantrill and the Rockies. Suarez is both pitching well and pitching deep. He comes into the game with 66 innings pitching in ten starts, 6 1/3 innings behind leader Seth Lugo. Suarez could easily be at the top of the list by the end of the day. Everyone ahead of him made eleven starts. Quantrill’s good year has to do with the Coors effect not following him on the road. He allows a .247/.330/.438 slash line at home (not bad for Coors), and a .236/.299/.350 line on the road. He seems to be willing to walk batters at Coors to avoid hits.

The Sunday night game features Javier Assad of the Cubs battling Sonny Gray of the Cardinals. Assad is 4-0 with a 1.70 ERA in four starts, and is not even close to the best pitcher on the Cubs. He’s holding opponents to a .240 BABIP. Gray is a bright spot for the Cardinals, 6-2 with a 2.87 ERA. He struck out 59 and walked just ten.

Enjoy!
