The Royals try to narrow the Guardians lead in the AL Central as Brady Singer takes on Tanner Bibee. Kansas City stands five games back in the division and four games back of the Orioles for the first wild card slot. Singer upped his strikeout game this year and saw a drop in his BA allowed and his ERA. Bibee improved both his strikeout and walk rates compared to his rookie year.

Javier Assad of the Cubs visits Hunter Greene of the Reds. Although the Reds stand last in the NL Central, they are only two games behind the second place Cubs for the second wild card slot, as a ton of NL teams are bunched around .500. Assad made his last start against Cincinnati, allowing two runs and striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings. Greene opposed Chicago the next day and allowed five runs in six innings despite just three hits against him. He walked five batters.
