Marsh Land

Alec Marsh of the Royals held the Yankees to one-hit in seven innings of work, allowing just a single to Juan Soto leading off Marsh’s final frame. His excellent work on Thursday included striking out Aaron Judge three times. Marsh also walked just two batters, and now owns an opposition slash line of just .218/.277/.375 this season.

He did not get the win for his fine work, as the bullpen allowed the Yankees three runs in the top of the eighth inning, giving New York a 3-2 lead, the Royals came back in the bottom of the ninth, and won the game on a Maikel Garcia double.

Marsh seems like quite the competitor:

“I thought we had a good game plan going in,” Marsh said. “Me and [catcher Freddy Fermin] were on the same page all day. I just felt comfortable out there.

“Just watching what they did the last couple of days, I was sick and tired of it.”

Marsh struck out Aaron Judge three times.

“Mixing it up,” he said. “I tried to keep him off-balance. He’s such a good hitter. He’s looking for things in certain counts. I was trying to throw him things I don’t normally throw in those counts.”

That turned out to be a good strategy.
