Rookies battle in Pittsburgh as Carson Spiers of the Reds faces Paul Skenes. Spiers makes his first start of the season. He served so far as a long reliever, pitching 19 1/3 innings in five appearances with four walks and fifteen strikeouts. Skenes owns a 2.43 ERA after six starts. He does give up the long ball, but limits other hits thanks to 46 K in 33 1/3 innings.
The Giants send Jordan Hicks against Javier Assad of the Cubs. Hicks allowed just six home runs this season, and five of them were solo shots. Assad holds opponents to a 3.52 slugging percentage.
