Best Batter Today

Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers returns to the top five of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings after posting a game score of 69 in the 9-5 win over the Rockies. Colorado pitched around him mostly, walking him five times. Freeman did add a single for a perfect six plate appearances. Shohei Ohtani, taking over the lead-off slot in the wake of the Mookie Betts injury, also posted a game score of 69, going three for five with a walk and two doubles. He moves up to seventh in the rankings. Over the last month, Freeman hit .327/.427/.612 to crawl his way back into the top five, as he now ranks fourth.

The other four players in the top five were all idle on Monday. In order, they are Aaron Judge and Juan Soto of the Yankees, Steven Kwan of the Guardians, and Gunnar Henderson of the Orioles.

Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies posted the highest game score of the day, an 81. He went two for three with two walks and two home runs to help blow out the Padres 9-2. Schwarber is less of a Ken Phelps hitter this season. His batting average is up while his power is down, and he still maintains a great OBP. He ranks 10th on the list, the highest ranking Phillies batter.
