The Reds try to generate some offense against the Cardinals as Carson Spiers takes on Sonny Gray. Spiers is one of five MLB pitchers with at least 30 innings pitched this season and no home runs allowed. Gray’s 0.60 HR per 9 IP since the start of the 2022 season tops the majors among pitchers with 300 innings.

The Royals try to gain another game on the visiting Guardians as Tanner Bibee faces Cole Ragans. Bibee owns a 16-6 record in his short MLB career, thanks excellent three-true outcomes in each dimension. It’s tough to generate power against Ragans, who allows a .321 slugging percentage this season.

Paul Skenes and Max Fried square off in Atlanta as the Pirates visit the Braves. Skenes owns a 2.14 ERA through six starts, striking out 61 and walking eight in 46 1/3 innings. With men on base, he struck out 20 of 61 batters faced without issuing a walk. Fried stands 40 games over .500 for his career with a 3.03 ERA. He induced 12 GDPs in 52 opportunities this season.

Finally, Hogan Harris of the Athletics tries to be the hero against Zac Gallen of the Diamondbacks. After posting a 7.14 ERA in 63 2023 innings, Harris brought that down to 2.72 in 36 1/3 innings this season. It’s not clear why, His FIPs are only slightly better, but his opposition BABIP is way down. Maybe there’s better defense behind him. Gallen is in the middle of his third good season in a row, producing very consistent numbers over that time.
