Royal Weekend

This Kansas City Star article makes very good points about the Royals taking three of four from the first place Guardians. The team put themselves in a hole with a 5-12 performance leading up to the series. Winning the series allows them to know they can hang with good teams, but it still only puts them in contention for the wild card, and they currently hold the third slot. Seven games back in third place in the division isn’t a terrible position, but that is a lot of games of make up on a good team.

I did find this bit disturbing coming from a baseball writer and supposedly going through a sports editor:

The Royals improved to 47-39 after winning three of their four games against Cleveland. Additionally, KC shaved three games off the Guardians’ divisional lead: Cleveland now leads Royals by seven games in the AL Central.

Winning three of four games only shaves two games off a lead.

Seth Lugo did win his 11th game, which leads the AL, and Bobby Witt Jr.hit his ninth triple, second in the AL and the majors.
