Games of the Day

The majors features just three games of the first Monday of July. The Astros and Blue Jays celebrate Canada Day this afternoon with Hunter Brown facing Yariel Rodriguez. Brown found his groove recently, going 4-1 in his last seven starts with a 1.47 ERA. He walked just 11 batters in 43 innings. Rodriguez makes the sixth start of his short career, but only lasted 16 2/3 innings in his first five.

The early evening game features David Peterson of the Mets against MacKenzie Gore of the Nationals. The surging Mets moved past Washington into third place in the NL East and into wild card contention. Peterson makes his sixth start of the season. So far, he stands 3-0 with a 3.67 ERA, although the opposition batting line against him is not that good. He has induced three double plays in twelve opportunities. Gore moved all three of his true outcomes in the right direction to reduce his ERA from 4.42 in 2023 to 3.60 this season.

Finally, the Brewers and Rockies are set to slug it out in Colorado as Bryse Wilson takes on Austin Gomber. Wilson allowed twelve home runs in 74 innings, while Gomber gave up 14 long balls in 81 2/3 innings.
