Games of the Day

David Peterson of the Mets takes on Chris Sale and the Braves in game two of a series important for the NL Wild Card. After Arizona lost their third game in a row, the Braves trail the Diamondbacks by 1/2 game and the Mets by one game. It may be that the NL East, rather than the NL west, supplies two wild card teams.

Peterson brings a 3.08 ERA into the game, which would be the lowest single season mark of his career. He allowed just eight home runs in 114 innings. Sale is the likely NL Cy Young winner with an 18-3 record and a 2.38 ERA. His 177 2/3 innings is the most he’s thrown in a season since 2017. He is also set to start the first Wild Card game if the Braves make it to the post season.

Dylan Cease of the Padres tries to knock off another game between San Diego and Los Angeles in the standings. He faces Jack Flaherty. A win would give Cease 15 for the season, which would be a new high for him. He lowered his walk rate by about one per nine innings compare to 2023. Flaherty pitched better with the Tigers, but a win tonight would equal his total in Detroit.

Enjoy!
