Tarik the Tiger

The Tigers beat the Astros 3-1 in game one of their Wild Card Round series, and it kept fans on the edge of their seats.

The Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the second inning with four singles and a walk. Tarik Skubal made that hold up for six innings, allowing just four hits and a walk. Will Vest then gave his best for one and 2/3 innings, allowing no hits while striking out four.

The Astros would not go quietly and Yordan Alvarez, with a bad knee, recorded an automatic double, then came out for a pinch runner. Two seeing eye hits put two on with a run in. A bunt, then a shallow fly out left runners on second and third with two out. Chas McCormick battled for a walk, bringing Jason Heyward to the plate. He battled as well, then pulled a hard line drive, but it found the glove of Spencer Torkelson for the final out.

The Tigers won the game they had to win. Now they need to see if the rest of the starting staff can hold off the Astros. As they showed in the ninth, they are down but never out.
